The Nature Center at Basin Harbor

We are very excited to introduce you to our Nature Center. We consider ourselves stewards of this land and our connection to the flora and fauna is strong.

Basin Harbor Club and Resort was the first golf course and first resort property in Vermont to become a Certified Audubon Sanctuary. The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program is an education and certification program that helps organizations and businesses protect our environment while enhancing the bottom line by improving efficiency and promoting conservation efforts.

The Nature Center focuses on providing guided activities to our guests that are educational, hands-on, entertaining, and unique. Offerings include art classes, crafts, treks, and historic boating adventures. The little nook itself, adorned in murals of local landmarks and wildlife, provides a colorful and quiet place to learn about the natural history of the Champlain Valley. Displays about geology, edible plants, shipwrecks, and Champ are set up on all four walls, and guests can pick up all kinds of maps, birding guides, and even recipes for wild foods.

Our Artist and Nature Enthusiast Abbey Andersen, is available throughout the week to answer questions about trails, flora and fauna, and the local area, and leads a series of creative classes including Drawing Up Close, Wildlife in Pastels, and Birch-Bark Journal Binding. Naturalist Matt Witten, a veteran of the Vermont outdoors, joins the BHC Nature Center twice a week to lead kayak treks, hikes, and boating activities.

We welcome inquiries about private hikes, paddles, and art classes with advance notice.
