BHC Couple Feature: Sharon + Mike
SHARON & MIKE
We always say that you come as guests but leave as family. This couldn’t be more true for all of our couples that select Basin Harbor as the venue for their wedding. We love getting to know them a little bit before the big day, and share their story with all of you! This August, Sharon and Mike will exchange their vows at Basin Harbor.
The couple met online while Sharon was working abroad in Austria. As it turns out, they both lived in the same small ski town in Vermont! Sharon returned to Vermont a month later and she and Mike went on a few dates. It wasn’t until a year later that Mike saw her out snowboarding by herself one day. The next day he ended up driving behind her down the mountain road on their way to work and he called her again. Sounds like their coincidental “meet cutes” led them back to each other! “We’ve been together ever since and can’t wait to get married!”Sharon and Mike enjoy spending time outdoors together. While Sharon snowboards and Mike is a skier, the two enjoy riding the mountain and making fun of each other’s inferior sports. Mike is a big mountain biker, and she is learning to ride and are both excited to have another activity to do together in the warmer months. Sharon and Mike have two dogs and love hanging with them.
Our couples chose Basin Harbor for a lot of different reasons. Sharon, being from the New Jersey Shore, wanted to have an element of “home”; which means on the water! “BHC was the perfect pick because we’ll get the sunsets over Lake Champlain and the mountains in the background”. We love the “summer camp” special touches this couple is incorporating, including adult ice pops as refreshments for the guests as they walk from the ceremony on the Lodge Lawn to the reception down near the waterfront. Embracing the nautical theme, they even designed their own burgee to fly high above the Burgee Bar for the reception. Other unique touches to their wedding include a Japanese flare. Sharon has visited Japan several times for work, and on her most recent trip Mike joined her. They’re including their love for the country and culture with the color scheme and integrating Shibori Indigo prints into the table decor.
