Craft Beer and Brew Tours in Vermont
Vermont in general and Basin Harbor specifically are great places to be if you’re a fan of craft beer. The Green Mountain State claims more brewpubs per capita than any other part of the U.S., after all, and our homegrown brewers can hold their own with any in the world for creativity and passion.
Basin Harbor’s Very Own Beer (and a Shout-Out to Drop-In Brewing Co.)
Here on the grounds of our historic Lake Champlain resort, we pour a number of fine brews at our onsite restaurants, and one is extra-special: the Red Chair Ale, an American amber brewed especially for us by Middlebury, Vermont’s Drop-In Brewing Co. You can savor a Red Chair Ale on tap at The Red Mill, and in bottled form at our other Basin Harbor establishments.
Meanwhile, we certainly urge you to pay a visit to Drop-In Brewing yourself: It’s a mere half-hour or so from Basin Harbor, and if you’ve enjoyed a Red Chair Ale you’re going to want to try their other craft beers, from the Oh Vienna Vienna Lager and the Czech Your Ego Czech Pilsner to the Supernova IPA and the Black Hole Stout. The Drop-In tasting room’s open seven days a week, and besides pints and tasters there you can haul away some beer to go via four-pack cans or fresh from the tap in a 64-oz. Growler or a 32-oz. “Screamer.” (Drop-In even goes all-out and sells beers by the “Gumbler”: a 128-oz. vessel.)
The North of the Basin Brew Tour
If the Vermont craft beers you’ve sipped at Basin Harbor and at Drop-In Brewing Co. have whetted our appetite, we recommend a suds-oriented foray northward toward Burlington. Our suggested North of the Basin Brew Tour hits up six other awesome breweries: Hired Hand (35 Green St, Vergennes), Fiddlehead (6305 Shelburne Rd, Shelburne), Magic Hat (5 Bartlett Bay Rd, South Burlington), Switchback (160 Flynn Ave, Burlington), Zero Gravity (716 Pine St, Burlington), and Foam Brewers (112 Lake St, Burlington). This is a great taproom-hopping survey of the caliber of Green Mountain State craft brewing!
