The Daily Breeze, August 29
Local Weather (Subject to Change!)
After a foggy morning, clouds are likely to clear from the Harbor and make way for our friend, The Sun. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach 80 degrees, with a breeze and a small chance of precipitation.
Basin Harbor is delighted to welcome our returning guests today! Jeremy & Dawn Holm join us from Bluefield, NJ and Peter & Jennifer Clark of Lexington, MA are here with Jonathan. We welcome Jeffrey & Eloise Patterson and the family from Lincoln, MA. How nice to see David Grubb and the gang from Pound Ridge, NY, as well as Richard & Julia Burke of Rye, NY with Rick, Ellie, and Will. Last but not least, Thomas & Augusta Moore join us today from New York City, bringing along Walker and Leila. Welcome back to Basin Harbor Club! We hope you have a lovely stay.
BHC makes it easy to have an active yet relaxing vacation! This morning is your last chance to pick up an oar with our maritime expert Matt Witten and get out onto Champlain the old fashioned way! Matt will be your coxswain as you row an historic replica longboat out into the lake. These boats, replicating the seaworthy gig boats used to lead larger vessels from sea to port off the coast of Cornwall, England in the 19th Century, are built next door at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. Matt will also be around after lunch to lead you up Buck Mountain for our afternoon hike. Don’t miss these unique opportunities! Sign up with the concierge.
Other activities this morning, at the Treehouse Wellness Center, include Vinyasa Yoga and Core Training. Get your workout in early so you can relax the rest of your day. If you’re not ready to relax, this afternoon holds our increasingly popular Basin Harbor Triathlon, which is not to be missed! Challenge yourself on this fun event that will have you swimming, biking, and running around BHC property. Grab a friend or family member for a team, or do all three legs on your own. Meet down at the waterfront at 1:45pm with a bike and helmet and a competitive spirit!
For the creatively-inclined folks among at Basin Harbor, consider signing up for Harbor in Pastels, where you will join Abbey at the Nature Center for a session of landscape drawing. Abbey will demonstrate how to use chalk pastels to capture the lovely scenery you have been enjoying around Basin Harbor, or you may opt to try your hand at drawing from pictures of local wildlife.
A slideshow of the candid images captured this week will be running this afternoon in the Ranger Room. Don’t forget to pick up a card at the concierge desk with information and the password on how to view and purchase your images online. Or stop by the Club Room tomorrow from 12-2 pm to order your images in advance.
Looking for more quality time in the woods? Grab a friend and spend an hour amongst the trees playing a game of checkers from our own Checkerboard Stump, hidden off the Button Bay Trail. You’ll locate the stump, complete with nature-themed checker pieces, on the trail accessible from the 4th Fairway of the golf course. See if you can find it!
Basin Harbor has activities for the whole family! Remember that resort-wide activities for the day are printed on the back of the daily Breeze, while the kids’ program schedule of events is listed separately on the back of the Weekly Schedule, available at the Front Desk and posted on the bulletin board in the lobby. Don’t miss out!
You’re in New England, and tonight is the last chance of the summer to crack open a lobster at Basin Harbor! Make your reservations for our ever-popular Shore Dinner, where you will be treated to a fresh and tasty crustacean alongside a delicious buffet-style feast.
The Town Hall will be brimming over with excitement tonight for Basin Harbor’s favorite game, BINGO! Who will take home the jackpot this time?
