Golf Tip of the Day
IS INCONSISTENT PUTTING PREVENTING YOU FROM LOWER SCORES?
One putting mechanic that is often over looked and can produce inconsistent putting is grip pressure! In particular, consistent grip pressure during the ENTIRE stroke.
In terms of grip pressure, imagine measuring your grip pressure on a scale of 1 to 10.
? One being so light that the putter is almost falling out of your hands.
? Ten being so tight that you can almost see the rubber from the grip bulging between your fingers.
Example: too often, people will use a grip pressure of (4) at address, then during the back swing they will increase the pressure to say (10) and then at impact they will release their grip pressure to (1)! This will cause you nothing but inconsistency!
You goal is to use a grip pressure of 4 and 4 (Four in the right hand and four in the left hand). And most importantly, maintain that same grip pressure from “address”, “during the stoke” and especially maintain the same pressure until the “finish” (this is once the ball is well on its way to the hole). Give this a try and see if this helps you to become more consistent!
