Day 8: Snickerdoodles

Snickerdoodles are a family favorite. The strong cinnamon flavor represents the holidays; and this easy recipe will be sure to spread the cheer!

1 1/2 cups sugar (+ 1/4 cup sugar for rolling)
1/2 cup softened butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 3/4 cup all purpose flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp ground cinnamon


Preheat your oven to 400F.
Mix your 1 1/2 cup sugar, butter, shortening and eggs in a large bowl. When mixture is all even, add in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.

You may put the dough in the refrigerator for up to a day if you want to make the dough in advance; this way your house will smell of freshly baked cinnamon if you’re having guests over.

Shape the dough into 1 1/4 inch balls. We have found using your hands is the best way to get this done. Mix the remaining 1/4 cup sugar and the cinnamon in a small bowl and roll the dough balls in the mixture. Place the dough balls about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet or parchment paper covered baking sheet.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, remove, allow to cool on a wire rack.
