Happy National Beer Day (And Exciting Announcement!)

Happy National Beer Day (And Exciting Announcement!)

National Beer Day is a good day. Here in Vermont and Basin Harbor, we have not only our love of beer to celebrate but the fact that we have so many outstanding local breweries to celebrate with. The unofficial holiday is an annual hurrah on April 7th, celebrating the end of prohibition in 1933 when people could buy, sell and drink beer for the first time in over a decade. April 7th was the date that the Cullen-Harrison Act allowed people to buy and drink low-alcohol content beer and wine in public. The Act was later voided when Utah became the 36th state to ratify the 21st Amendment in December of that same year. Nineteen states had their kegs tapped that day. It was also the first day that the now famous Budweiser Clydesdales made their first public appearance as they pulled a beer wagon through the city of St. Louis. Two cases of beer from Abner-Brury Brewery were delivered to the White House for President Roosevelt at precisely 12:01 am. Lucky for the Marine who was guarding the beer, Roosevelt was asleep, so he got to enjoy the first symbolic bottle so the press could take photos.

Red Chair Ale?

Perhaps you’ve heard the rumors; Basin Harbor Ale has retired. After many thirst-quenching years, it’s going into the vault…fear not! We have a very excited announcement (drum roll please)…

Basin Harbor Club & Resort is pleased to announce a new partnership with Drop-In Brewing Company of Middlebury, Vermont. Drop-In will be bottling the newest member to the BHC family, Red Chair Ale!

Beer drinkers rejoice! Red Chair Ale is an American Amber Ale, brewed with American 2 Row Malt, English crystal malt, Columbus Willamette, Mr Hood and Cascade hops, and a West coast American yeast strain coming in a 5.2%. (It is also known to Drop-In fans as Red Dwarf Ale.)
