Hotel near New Year’s Eve Events in Burlington, VT
Ours is a seasonal resort here at Basin Harbor, as our regular and returning guests know; we’re closed from fall to spring, a time we partly spend doing the necessary maintenance and planning to ensure a homerun of a forthcoming summer season.
We may be currently closed, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t still looking after your Champlain Valley travel needs! If you’re looking to spend New Year’s Eve in our neck of the woods—even if not at our historic lakefront resort—here are a couple of fantastic events at which to celebrate the bow-out of 2018 and grand entrance of 2019!
Highlight in Burlington, VT
Vermont’s biggest city—just an hour or so north of Basin Harbor—is launching a whole new New Year’s Eve celebration in the form of Highlight, which brings better than 30 events to venues scattered around the Waterfront, South End, Old North End, and Downtown Corridor neighborhoods.
Those events comprise a great deal of festive variety. Beginning at 6 PM, Waterfront Park hosts a lively community bonfire accentuated by fire-dancing performances by the Vermont-based Cirque De Fuego troupe. There’ll also be a Highlight Parade beginning at 5:30 PM at the Church Street Marketplace.
A whole slew of concerts will be taking place on New Year’s Eve for Highlight, among them Anaïs Mitchell and friends (Unitarian Universalist at 6:30 PM), a bluegrass and honky-tonk extravaganza with Brett Hughes and others (the Soda Plant at 2 PM), Ray Vega and Mal Maïz (Flynn Space at 6 PM), the Funky Town DJs (Echo at 7 PM), and Mellow Yellow’s Sixties Flashback (Old North End Community Center at 11 PM).
More tune-smithing, meanwhile, awaits at the Advance Music Vermont Singer/Songwriter Showcase at Unitarian Universalist beginning at 1 PM as well as the Girls Rock Vermont Variety Show at Echo starting at 6 PM.
Throw in an Instrument Petting Zoo presented by Young Tradition VT (Fletcher Free Library, 1 to 4 PM), family-friendly improv at the Vermont Comedy Club (2 to 7 PM), The Moth Story Slam (Unitarian Universalist from 4 to 6 PM), the Creative Cocktail Project (Soda Plant at 2 PM, coinciding with the bluegrass/honky-tonk fun), and more, and you’ve got a truly fabulous New Year’s Eve bonanza at your disposal courtesy of Burlington’s Highlight!
New Year’s Eve Concert at The Den at Harry’s Hardware (3087 Main St., Cabot, VT)
Another great NYE option within shouting distance of Basin Harbor is the December 31st concert of jazz/soul/folk artist Jen Grinels at The Den at Harry’s Hardware, a charming venue in the hamlet of Cabot, Vermont. Savor some local Green Mountain State craft beer while you enjoy what’s sure to be a memorable performance by Grinels, whom Kenneth Fish in the San Francisco Examiner described as “a rock and roll temptress conjuring musical spells that no one can resist.”
See You Next Year at Basin Harbor
However you celebrate New Year’s this time around, we hope you’ll raise a toast for an upcoming 2019 stay at Basin Harbor here on the shores of Lake Champlain: We can’t wait for next season, and we want you to be a part of it!
