Hotel near the Burlington Farmers Market

Vermont has a wonderfully vibrant small-farm and local-agriculture scene: one of the most vibrant in the country, in fact. As a guest of ours here at Basin Harbor on the scenic shores of Lake Champlain, you’re not at all far from one of the great expressions of that farm-to-table scene: the venerable and cherished Burlington Farmers Market.

The Burlington Farmers Market

Established in 1980, the Burlington Farmers Market brings producers and food artisans from all around the Green Mountain State to the state’s largest city for a fantastic showcase of soil-sprung bounty and our varied foodsheds—plus some wonderful arts and crafts to boot.

The farmers market takes place each and every Saturday from late spring into autumn. This year and next, renovations to its usual H.Q. in City Hall Park mean the market will be going down in a different location: the former bus station on Pine Street in Burlington’s hip and happening South End.

From Basin Harbor, you’re within an hour’s drive of Burlington—and an exceedingly pretty drive it is, up the Champlain Valley. So if you’re relishing our lakeside hospitality this summer or early fall on a weekend, we strongly recommend a day trip to the “big” city and its outstanding farmers market, the 90-odd vendors of which—farmers to potters, brewers to bakers, jewelers to confectioners—do a fabulous job showing off the wholesome fertility, culinary creativity, and artistic spirit that make Vermont such a very special place.

The Burlington Winter Farmers Market

We’re closed here at Basin Harbor during the winter, and so is the outdoor version of the Burlington Farmers Market. But this time of year there’s an “off-season” edition, the Burlington Winter Farmers Market, which happily hums along every other Saturday on the campus of the University of Vermont between November and April.

Held on the second floor of the Dudley H. Davis Center, the Burlington Winter Farmers Market involves more than 50 vendors, many of them summer-market regulars as well, plus live music.

Taste Vermont’s Bounty at Basin Harbor

Besides putting you within a scenic jaunt of the Burlington Farmers Market, we celebrate Vermont’s farm-fresh goodness (and some local libations) front and center here at Basin Harbor. Tap into local and regional flavors as well as the seasonal cycle at our Ardelia’s and Red Mill restaurants, and meanwhile explore local breweries and wineries on one of our suggested tours!
