Lifelong Friends at Basin Harbor

At Basin Harbor, we pride ourselves on providing our guests with an environment of fun, leisure, and reflection along the lapping shores of one of America’s grandest freshwater bodies, beautiful Lake Champlain. It’s something we’ve been doing (in the same family, no less) since the late 19th century, and our lovely grounds—not to mention the recreational and R&R enticements they offer—have charmed countless visitors, many of whom have returned again and again with their families and friends.

And speaking of friends, some are actually minted right here on our lakeshore property. It’s not difficult to strike up new acquaintances at Basin Harbor: down at the boat docks, out on the golf course (or at the Fairway Café), or perhaps over a pint or two of Vermont-brewed craft beer at the Red Mill Restaurant. The atmosphere here, equal parts exuberant (tennis, paddleboating, giant chess, wine toasts, etc.) and serene (lakeside sunsets, woodsy hikes, dawn paddles, etc.), seems to make everybody feel like family, no matter where they’re from or whether it’s their first time or their 20th at Basin Harbor.

Case in point: two of our returning Basin Harbor guests, Caroline and Charlotte. Here’s a note they passed along to us recently:

Charlotte and I met in 2005 at Basin Harbor Club and immediately became best friends. Despite Charlotte living in Boston and I in New Jersey, we still stay connected through our cherished week at BHC. Over the past almost 12 years we have become like sisters, going on numerous weekend trips to New York City to see Sophia (our little sister) and Cape Cod, traveling to Mexico together, going to concerts and Broadway musicals, and even starting our college searches. The friends we have made in Vermont have become our BHC family and we try to see each other as much as possible, but nothing can compare to Week 31 at Lake Champlain.

Caroline and Charlotte’s friendship, kindled at Basin Harbor, is the kind of story that truly inspires us. Our family has nurtured this resort across better than a century with a commitment to bringing people together amid classic Vermont beauty, to giving them a place where the stresses and commitments of everyday life take a back seat to quality time. We love hearing about a bond christened here on our Lake Champlain waterfront that’s been carried through the years—and we especially love seeing that bond renewed annually right back where it started!
