Luxury Hotel for Vermont International Film Festival
Burlington, Vermont—the biggest city in the Green Mountain State, and within an hour’s drive of Basin Harbor—is a hotbed of arts and culture all year round. Certainly, one of the high points of the Queen City’s cultural calendar is the Vermont International Film Festival, which celebrates its 33rd year in 2019.
The festival hits Burlington from October 17th through the 27th, but there are plenty of associated events and film screenings throughout the year as well!
The Vermont International Film Festival
Since 1985, the Vermont International Film Festival has celebrated some of the finest in regional, national, and global independent and art-house cinema. Originally held at Marlboro College, it now plays out at multiple venues in Burlington, including the waterfront Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center (60 Lake St.), Burlington City Arts (135 Church St.), and Echo Lakeside Hall (1 College St.). You can learn more about the history of the festival—and take a gander at past years’ posters—right here.
While this year’s Vermont International Film Festival is still a ways out—and takes place just after we close up for the season here at Basin Harbor—there’s a lot else in the cinematic department in store in the meantime. The associated Global Roots Film Festival, for example, presents “Why Sing, Why Dance?—a celebration of musical films famous and otherwise, presented by the composer Neil Brand—takes place at the Main Street Landing Film House this April.
On the last Thursday of each month, meanwhile, the Vermont International Film Festival screens a film at the Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center: a tradition since 2014, when the Burlington Film Society merged with the festival. You can check out the upcoming schedule—the next screening is Becoming Astrid (Unga Astrid) on March 28th—right here. These are certainly options for you during our summer and early-fall season here at our Lake Champlain resort!
The Vermont International Film Festival: Another Jewel in the Champlain Valley’s Crown
We urge you to take in the Vermont International Film Festival someday, not to mention the monthly film screenings at Main Street Landing you can enjoy as a guest of ours here at Basin Harbor, and the Global Roots Film Festival coming up just next month. These celebrations of fabulous filmmaking and fabulous filmmakers are just another reason why our great big backyard here in the Champlain Valley is such a magical place!
