Next Generation Golf
The dew on the fairway in the morning. The clink of a perfectly hit tee shot. And the satisfaction of saving par while you’re out on the links for a round with the people who are most important to you.
We’re talking about golf – but a new type of golf that’s perfect for the whole family to enjoy. Yes, while golf is often perceived as a way to seal business deals, escape from the work and family stresses of every day life or just spend some time catching up with buddies, it’s also a game that’s suitable for the whole family, no matter how young or how old. We like to think of it as “next generation golf,” a way for families to grow closer and make memories sharing in an activity that they all enjoy.
So just how can you get the whole family excited about golf? Here’s a look:
Junior clinics: Golf is a lot harder than it looks, which is why junior clinics for the kids are the perfect introduction to the sport. Not only will a course professional cover the basics with the little ones as they learn the game, but they’ll help newcomers to the game develop the fundamentals that can be practiced and perfected to really grow one’s game. Aside from the fundamentals, kids will learn lifelong lessons, as golf is a game built on honesty, proper etiquette and sportsmanship.
Night golf: Enjoy your favorite game under the stars. The glow of this fun, three-hole night game makes it all the more fun for you and all the more magical for the kids. Special glow-in-the-dark balls and glow sticks running the way allows you to see the course ahead. Night golf will be offered during selected weeks in July and August.
Outdoor fun: Golf allows you and your family to be outdoors, to be active and to see some of the most beautiful scenery that nature has to offer. Seeing deer cautiously roam wooded areas of the course on calm mornings, listening to birds chirping and taking in the fresh air can make you forget that you’re also playing a game. To really take in the ambiance of the course, ditch the golf cart and walk the round with your family. Not only is this great exercise (it’s estimated that you walk 2.5 miles for every 9 holes played), but walking really gives you the time to soak in the beauty of the course and nature.
Making memories: Golf can be frustrating – but it can also be very rewarding. And there’s arguably nothing more rewarding than seeing your children smash a perfect tee shot on hole 18, or your spouse sinking a 30-foot putt to make birdie. Too many people succumb to the challenging nature of the game, but if you’re with your family and the focus is all on having fun and making memories, you’re sure to have a very positive experience.
However, above all, golf is a way to spend more time with your family. With the hustle and bustle of life, sometimes the little things like family time are taken too much for granted, when it’s your family that should be the most important to you. Golf is a way to get in that good family time, while making memories with those who are most important to you. We challenge you to find a more satisfying feeling than seeing your family members embrace and excel at the game.
So this year, consider making golf an activity for the whole family here at Basin Harbor. We’ll see you out on the links!
