North of the Basin Brew Tour Lodging

Earlier this year here at the Basin Harbor blog we wrote about our popular North of the Basin Wine Tour, a vineyard- and tasting-room-hopping journey through the gorgeous Champlain Valley. Today we’re going to spotlight another thirst-quenching epicurean foray at your disposal as a guest of ours: the North of Basin Brew Tour!

North of our Lake Champlain resort, you’ll find better than 20 craft breweries within easy reach, so if you’re disposed toward the sudsy side of things you’ve got the makings of a real heyday. You can find a complete listing of all of them over at the Vermont Brewers Association website, but for a sampler pack of the highest quality consider hitting up the stops we’ve suggested on the Basin Harbor North of the Basin Brew Tour.

A Craft Beer Safari North of Basin Harbor

Take the North of the Basin Brew Tour, and you’ll treat yourself to a fantastic survey of the variety of craft beer our greater neighborhood here in the Champlain Valley serves up.

Over in downtown Vergennes just a few miles east of our lakeside paradise here at Basin Harbor, you can check out Hired Hand Brewing Co. (35 Green St., Vergennes, VT), which restricts itself entirely to locally obtained ingredients to produce “hyperlocal” beer. Right now you can sample such delights as the Hired Hand Tractor Pils or the Hired Hand Citra Session IPA, both absolutely ideal for a summer afternoon out and about in the Green Mountain State. Hired Hand also serves awesome beer cocktails marrying Hired Hand beer with Vermont-distilled spirits, and you’ve also got plenty in the eats department on order.

Then there’s Fiddlehead Brewing Co. (6305 Shelburne Rd, Shelburne, VT), pouring the masterful creations of brewer Matthew Cohen (“Matty O”). At Fiddlehead’s Shelburne tasting room, you can enjoy free samples of the flagship Fiddlehead IPA and other bewitching brews; give ‘em a call at 802-399-2994 to find out what they’re pouring on any given day. You can also take a growler (or 32-oz. growlette) to go!

Prepare to be dazzled by the arsenal of taps Magic Hat Brewery maintains at its delightful Artifactory (5 Bartlett Bay Rd, South Burlington, VT), where depending on the day you might get to sip a Big Hundo Imperial IPA, a Local Rocker Farmhouse Saison, a Barroom Hero Pub Ale, or perhaps the Heart of Darkness “Diabolically Delicious” Stout. A food menu featuring a lot of local Vermont goodness backs up the beer roster. Between Thursday and Sunday, Magic Hat offers free guided tours in the afternoon—consider taking advantage for a peek behind the beer-making curtain!

Other North of the Basin Brew Tour Highlights

The North of the Basin Brew Tour also includes the equally outstanding Switchback Brewing Co. (160 Flynn Ave, Burlington, VT), Zero Gravity Craft Brewery (716 Pine St., Burlington, VT), and Foam Brewers (112 Lake St., Burlington, VT). Wet your whistle at six of the finest craft breweries in our neck of the woods here at Basin Harbor, and remember there are plenty of other good ones to explore with the Vermont Brewers Association website (or a company such as Burlington City Brew Tour) as your guide!
