Paddle Boarding on Lake Champlain
Here at Basin Harbor, we give you a whole plethora of ways to experience the magic and beauty of Lake Champlain: from swimming and fishing along the shore to water-skiing, sailing, and narrated cruises. All things considered, one of the most intimate means of communing with this mighty and magnificent body of water—this mountain-cupped inland sea—is by standup paddleboard, and we’ve got you covered in that department as well here at our lakefront resort.
Introducing Standup Paddleboarding
The roots of paddleboarding—sitting, kneeling, or standing upon a platform propelled by a paddle—go back thousands of years, and the activity in one form or another has showed up all over the world. The modern form of standup paddleboarding (often abbreviated as SUP) mainly arose in Hawaii as an offshoot of surfing, and in the past decade or so it’s expanded enormously as a more laidback, flatwater sport pursued on lakes, rivers, bays, and calm nearshore waters.
Just about anybody can successfully standup paddleboard: It doesn’t take special skills, and once you’ve gotten comfortable with the feel of it you’re liable to get hooked. One of the great virtues of SUP is the core workout it delivers—awesome exercise that, because of the fun of it and the on-the-water scenery, doesn’t seem at all like a fitness routine.
