Picture Perfect at Basin Harbor
Basin Harbor Club is truly one-of-a-kind when it comes to stunning views. With the sparkling waters of Lake Champlain, the Adirondack State Park across the narrows, 700-acres of lush green and gorgeous gardens, it is a photographers dream. Local photographer, Amanda Herzberger, of Orchard Cove Photography shares “Basin Harbor is one of my absolute favorite venues to photograph for many reasons, but one of the biggest is the diversity of beautiful locations to use for photography.”
Amanda is one of our favorite photographers, too! She has done several photo shoots with us and many weddings over the years. She shares that Basin Harbor “offer[s] stunning gardens, an idyllic lake front, meandering trails with hidden spots, a beautiful golf course, the homestead with it’s classic stonework and ivy covered walls, and of course the iconic BHC Adirondack chairs – very few properties have that many options.”
Here are some of our favorite unique photo ops from past Basin Harbor weddings:
Basin Harbor’s property is sprinkled with brightly colored chairs that you’ll find in three sizes: children, adult, and giant! These giant chairs make for a fun and bright photo. We really like this one capture by Orchard Cove Photography.
The Adirondack chairs come in three standard colors: yellow, blue, green and red and can add a lot of personality to your photos.
Some couples have even lined their ceremony aisle with the children sized chairs, customized the paint to their wedding scheme and used them as their cake toppers, and at least take a classic BHC wedding photo sitting in them!
The BHC team spends a great deal of time on caring for the grounds and gardens around property. We love this couple’s simple moment captured in front of the historic Harbor Homestead with pops of colorful colors.
The Homestead building was built in 1972, the Harbor Homestead is the oldest operating inn on Lake Champlain! The distinguishing features of the building are its native stone facade and wide covered porch overlooking the lake.
The Homestead has a spacious living room area that many of our brides and her bridesmaids enjoy getting ready in. Set up a brunch to be delivered so you can have a relaxing morning getting pampered before you walk down the aisle.
Being 130 years old, Basin Harbor has so much history. The Lodge behind this lovely couple was an original structure built back in 1886. We love the way the photographer captured the shinning light through the leaves. Photo by Hannah Photography.
The main lodge was the original farmhouse of Basin Harbor Club. The Lodge is such an iconic backdrop for many wedding photos, especially because of the Dutchman’s Pipe (Ristolocia Durior) which has been draping the balconies of the lodge over over a 100 years.
This is one of our favorite shots from 2016. The photographer captured the moment between AJ and Barbara so beautifully. The background is the NY Adiondack State Park, the largest state park in the country! that day the sky threatened storms, but we love how the photographer used that to convey this romantic, intimate vibe.
The waterfront area has many photo opportunities. With many tiers of rocks, photographers have fun playing with levels and lighting. The waterfront also has a sandy beach which can make for some fun, summer photo ops.
Play! Basin Harbor has a variety of recreational activities like tennis, golf and croquet. While you’re enjoying the games, take a swing at them yourself to capture this fun moment like Rich and Nicole. Photo by Love Buzz Photo.
Perfect timing? Love Buzz Photo had fun with this couple’s photo shoot. We love when couples have cocktail receptions on the Lodge Lawn with the floating green. Guests take turns hitting from the lawn into the lake on a small floating green.
Cocktails and Croquet anyone? Jami and Alison had a great time with their guests during their cocktail reception with lawn games! A great way to keep guests entertained and make for a great photo opporutnity! Photo by Andy Duback.
With a cocktail reception hosted at the Burgee Bar, guests can enjoy the large grassy area, the Lakeside Lawn. Relaxing in chairs, playing lawn games or simply taking in the views, this area of property always boasts the best views of Lake Champlain.
Amanda was very complimentary of the Basin Harbor team; “the staff is so accommodating to requests including one couple who went out in a boat that matched their wedding colors at sunset for the perfect shot and memory! It’s a large enough property that you have privacy from your guests while doing photos but can still move between locations quickly. It’s a gem of a spot!” Take advantage of one of the only venues on Lake Champlain. Our staff loves to help you and your photographer get that perfect shot!
