Resort Near New England’s Oldest and Largest Quilt Festival

If you’re a quilter—enthusiastic amateur or stone-cold expert—or simply somebody who appreciates traditional arts-and-crafts, you’ll want to get yourself to Basin Harbor at the end of June. Why? Well, for the oldest and biggest quilt festival in all of New England, that’s why!

The Vermont Quilt Festival will be going down for the 43rd time from Wednesday, June 26th through Saturday, June 29th at the Essex Fairgrounds in Essex Junction, just an hour or so from our Lake Champlain resort. It’s a fantastic summer tradition that’s all the better to enjoy when you can combine it with our trademark lakeside luxury hospitality!

The 2019 Vermont Quilt Festival

More than 6,000 quilters and quilt enthusiasts come to the Vermont Quilt Festival each year, admiring creations by craftspeople from across the United States, Canada, and beyond.

Quilting is a venerable tradition in New England and certainly in the Green Mountain State, and this long-running event—among the most popular yearly festivals in Vermont—celebrates the craft front and center. There’ll be quilting classes from expert instructors, a slew of quilts and quilting accessories for sale, inspiring exhibits, and a multi-category contest with entrants from all over.

This year’s festival exhibits include Quilted Treasures of New York, which explores regional 19th-century quilt traditions from across the state of New York; Song Quilts: A Celebration of Stitch & Song, Eliza Hardy Jones’ fusion of quilting and music; and the annual showcase of quilts made by the festival’s esteemed instructors.

Classes at the 2019 Vermont Quilt Festival cover a lot of territory, as usual: from “Exploring Design Constraints: Mini Quilts” and “Raw Edge Collage Landscape” to “Stitching With Elegant Silk” and “Beginner Wool Applique.”

The 2019 contest, meanwhile, centers on the theme “Color My World.” Whether or not you’re one of the contestants who submitted a quilt for consideration, it’ll certainly be thrilling, as always, to review the entrees! (To whet your appetite, take a gander at some of the Vermont Quilt Festival “Best in Show” winners from past years right here.)

Call Basin Harbor Home for the 2019 Vermont Quilt Festival

When you’re not admiring quilts and learning some tricks of the trade over at the Essex Fairgrounds for this year’s Vermont Quilt Festival, enjoy the waterfront hospitality, dining, and recreation here at Basin Harbor, just a hop, skip, and a jump away in Vergennes. We look forward to seeing you for this textile-rrific (sorry) happening in June!
