Vermont’s World-Class Hiking at Basin Harbor Club
The Green Mountain State ranks easily among America’s greatest hiking destinations, and Basin Harbor Club gives you the perfect launchpad for taking advantage of Vermont’s unforgettable trails. Set as we are on the southeastern shores of Lake Champlain, our resort lies within easy reach of some truly outstanding routes: from waterfront rambles to backcountry treks into the Green Mountains and Adirondacks.
Here at Basin Harbor Club, we’re passionate about the great Vermont outdoors, and we love pointing our guests to superb hikes—or leading them along the trail! That’s right: We offer guided day hikes on our own sprawling property as well at a wide variety of nearby destinations, including local summits such as Mount Philo, Snake Mountain, and Buck Mountain, all of which offer stirring prospects across the Champlain Valley and to its shouldering highlands. Nabbing such hilltop views is a great payoff for a little low-grade huffing-and-puffing—and a splendid way to get some perspective on Basin Harbor Club’s one-of-a-kind setting.
Our guides also lead adventures a little farther afield. It’s hard to resist those Adirondacks beckoning across Lake Champlain—so why not join us on a guided hike in those glorious old mountains? All it takes is a short boat ride across the lake to a cove on the New York shore, from which we’ll embark on a few hours of Adirondack rambling. The Adirondacks—kindred to the Laurentians up in Quebec and home to some of the most significant old-growth forests in the eastern U.S.—are magical, from their deep-wooded lake basins to the windswept crowns of their coveted High Peaks.
Our Basin Harbor Club hikes are all-ages affairs—the perfect activity for family reunions or friend getaways. And besides our organized forays, you can also set off on your own independent perambulations. Our concierge can provide you with good recommendations for half- or full-day hikes in the vicinity, including outings to Green Mountain peaks such as Camel’s Hump and Mount Mansfield (the 4,393-foot rooftop of Vermont). And speaking of the Green Mountains, those gorgeous Appalachian heights are home to the celebrated Long Trail, one of America’s premier long-distance footpaths. You can sample its charms on a dayhike, or plan a couple days in the backcountry bookended by the pleasant—and conveniently close—luxury of Basin Harbor Club!
We’re but a stone’s throw from Button Bay State Park, meanwhile, which includes an easy, accessible path out to narrow Button Point to the south of our property.
Whether you’re watching an osprey stoop from a lakeside path or you’re spying on whitetails in the high woods of the Green Mountains or Adirondacks, spectacular beauty and outdoor adventure for every skill level await you at Basin Harbor Club. Come hit the trails with us this summer!
