Summer Water Recreation

Summer Fun at Basin Harbor Club

Take it from us: A summer’s day spent on the shores of Lake Champlain—or out on its waters—is about as close to paradise as you can get.

As our guest at Basin Harbor Club, you’ve got that paradise awaiting you each and every day. Whatever your preferred mode of water recreation—and maybe you want to try it all—we set you up for it perfectly, smack dab on Basin Harbor’s lapping shores!

Paddling

Paddling has a deep and rich history in this neck of the woods, and there’s still nothing quite like cruising the lakeshore to the quiet soundtrack of your own muscle-powered strokes. Canoes, of course, are the age-old vessels around here, and we’ve got them for rent at the resort.

We also have a brand-new fleet of snazzy solo and tandem kayaks available. Take a boat out for some self-guided fun, or join one of our weekly kayak outings: Our guides take you out on Lake Champlain and up Otter and Dead creeks, introducing you to the local ecology while you admire some magnificent scenery throughout.

At this point, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with standup paddleboarding—that laidback fusion of surfing and kayaking that’s exploded in worldwide popularity the past few years. Get a firsthand taste of its special, serene vibe right here at Basin Harbor Club. Bring your own paddleboard or rent one of ours, and spend an hour or two gliding over the inland sea: You’ll be so captivated by the lake-scape and the relaxing rhythm, you won’t notice what a nice workout you’re getting!

And, of course, there’s the reliable all-ages fun of paddleboats! These and other small watercraft at the Basin Harbor Club beach are complimentary for any of our guests, so spontaneous little adventures are easy to come by.

Cruising

Those Lake Champlain breezes aren’t just for beautifully riffling the waters and swaying the lakefront trees: They’re for powering sailboats! We’ve got Sunfish (up to two people) and Cape Cory Day Sailers (up to six people) for rent, as well as instructors available if you’re new to the art of sailing.

If you want to just kick back and soak up the scenery—and get a few fascinating lessons on Lake Champlain history, both human and natural—sign up for one of our narrated lake cruises. Eyeballing the aerie of a bald eagle, admiring an angling osprey, learning about some of the dramatic battles that have played out on these waters: This is an hour or two well spent!

High Thrills

Feel like cranking up the tempo a bit? Rent a powerboat for a fast-paced lake safari, or indulge in water-skiing, wakeboarding, or tubing with a Basin Harbor Club staffer piloting the boat for you.

Fishing & Swimming

Of course, you don’t even need a boat or a paddleboard to commune one-on-one with Lake Champlain. If you’re an angler, the Basin Harbor Club waterfront offers plenty of choice casting spots; poles are complimentary, and bait is for sale. We also host a weekly fishing tournament and regular fishing trips.

And a summer afternoon at Basin Harbor Club almost seems to demand a dip. Actually, you can choose between the refreshing lake shallows and our solar-heated swimming pool. And then dry off with a lakefront nap—what could be better?

There’s really no end to the summer fun at Basin Harbor Club: We haven’t even talked about all the hiking, horseback riding, etc. also on tap. But there’s no question the magnificent lake’s the star of the show, whether you’re experiencing it out with a paddle or sail, a swim off the pier, or a lazy lakeside picnic.
