The Daily Breeze, August 1
August 1 Week 30
Local Weather (Subject to Change!)
Welcome to August! Today’s high is expected to reach 77 degrees, with a strong likelihood of some precipitation heading our way.
How wonderful it is to welcome Susan Tritell and Joel Gendler today, from Shrewsbury, MA, who are joined by Andrew and David for some quality time at the Harbor. Good to see you all!
Greetings to the Buckley Family! We are delighted to host Trisha Buckley from North Haven, CT and other members of the family for a joyous reunion here at Basin Harbor Club. Enjoy your time together!
Last chance to jump aboard a Replica Pilot Gig Boat built at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, and do a bit of historic rowing! Join Matt this morning for one of two rowing sessions, where you’ll get to experience what it was like in Cornwall, England to head into the open water with your rowing team and coxswain. This unique opportunity is open to all levels of rowers. Check in with the concierge and get out on the water!
The staghorn sumac is in bloom, and that means it’s time to make sumac kool-aid! To pick up a few fun recipes for local wild edibles and to learn more about Basin Harbor’s vast array of flora and fauna, head to the Nature Center and get the scoop! While you’re there, check out our displays about bugs, shipwrecks, Lake Champlain geology, and the legend of Champ! Pick up your trail maps, cycling maps, and hiking guides, as well.
For the active Basin Harborites in our crowd, don’t miss the Basin Harbor Triathlon this afternoon! Challenge yourself on this fun event that will have you swimming, biking, and running around BHC property. Grab a friend or family member for a team, or do all three legs on your own. Meet down at the waterfront at 1:45pm with a bike and helmet and a competitive spirit!
Should the weather turn a bit drizzly this afternoon, consider a relaxing indoor spa treatment! Choose from a whole menu of unbelievable massage options from our Blue Chair Day Spa massage therapists Kate and Patti. See the concierge to set up your treatments, with openings still available for today!
If weather permits, our popular Adirondack Hike will make its second appearance of the week, slated for this afternoon at 1:30pm. Those who didn’t get a chance to hike with naturalist Matt Witten on Monday will be able to enjoy this trip across the lake. If wind and rains make the lake crossing less-than-ideal, consider signing up for Sip ‘n Stroll, a Vermont Libations Mini-Tour, going out at the same time, which will still allow for a casual forest walk or two between visitations to Drop-In Brewing and Lincoln Peak Vineyard. Be sure to sign up with the concierge for either adventure!
A slideshow of the candid images captured this week will be running this afternoon in the Ranger Room. Don’t forget to pick up a card at the concierge desk with information and the password on how to view and purchase your images online. Or stop by the Club Room tomorrow from 12-2 pm to order your images in advance.
Basin Harbor has activities for the whole family! Remember that resort-wide activities for the day are printed on the back of the daily Breeze, while the kids’ program schedule of events is listed separately on the back of the Weekly Schedule, available at the Front Desk and posted on the bulletin board in the lobby. Don’t miss out!
We’re in New England, so how about some lobster? Make your reservations for our Shore Dinner tonight on the North Dock, where you’ll be rewarded with a bounty of deliciousness from the land and sea. Then head to the Town Hall for a few thrilling rounds of Basin Harbor’s favorite game, BINGO! Who will take home the jackpot tonight?
