Basin Harbor Club is delighted to welcome back our returning guests! We have with us Duo & Liz Dickinson from Madison, CT along with Will and Sam. From Basking Ridge, NJ we welcome William Jr. and Lois Olmstead. And from just up the road in Shelburne, VT, our friends Matthew & Lori Smith join us for the evening. How wonderful to see you all again!
The Harbor wishes a very special Happy Birthday to longtime guest Faye Jackson from Venice, CA, who will be celebrating the occasion with her family here on the shores of Lake Champlain. We hope you have a wonderful time!
Did you know that Basin Harbor’s original gardens were planted in 1896? Or that the Chef’s Garden contains a whole myriad of edible herbs and flowers that show up on your very dinner plate? BHC’s many gardens are at their peak of maturity and brilliance in August, so if you’re curious about the history and beauty of our colorful grounds, jump aboard the Garden Tour for an afternoon stroll with florist Claire L’Esperance.
Don’t know what to do with that eggplant you just bought on a whim at the Farmer’s Market? If you haven’t been to one of Chef Tony’s famous Cooking Classes on the North Dock, tomorrow is your last chance this week! The Chef will be offering his class on Marinated Eggplant. Yum! Sign up in advance with the concierge.
Don’t forget to keep up to date on the Olympics! Coverage of The Games will continue throughout the week in the Champlain Lounge, the Red Mill, from 8:30 to 5pm in the Fairway Café, and at various times in the Club Room. If you’re up at 6am, tune in for everyone’s favorite game, Handball, with France and Tunisia.
Have you seen any large, serpentine creatures in the Lake Champlain lately? Or is it just an illusion? Come on down to the new-and-improved Nature Center below the Homestead and read about our famous lake monster, Champ, then draw a picture of what YOU think people are really seeing. While you’re there, grab a trail map, cycling map, hiking guide, birding guide, and a recipe for cattail pollen pancakes (yes, cattails are edible!) from our special display, Beyond The Maple Syrup: Useful Nature of Vermont’s Past and Present.
